Dentures offer the opportunity to replace missing teeth and regain your ability to eat, drink, speak and smile as usual. McDonald Dental provides professional denture services to patients all around Gympie and surrounding areas. Denture fitting, care and repairs are important to your health and wellbeing. Whether they’re full or partial dentures, they need to be well fitted and repaired as necessary.
Fitting dentures takes time. Measurements and impressions will be taken of your mouth over a few sessions. We want to make sure your custom dentures fit snugly without being uncomfortable, loose, or causing chaffing. Denture fitting takes time, but the end result is worth it. Your dentures will be fully lined and fitted perfectly to your mouth. Any time they start to become loose, or the fit worsens, you can get them relined.
There are many different types of dentures available. Although full dentures are common for patients with full or severe tooth loss, there are other options. Here’s an overview of the types of dentures we offer at McDonald Dental.
Full dentures replace all your teeth on the upper or lower jaw. This is an option when no teeth are remaining.
Unlike full dentures, partial dentures are used when you still have natural teeth remaining. You can get them for your upper or lower jaws.
With chrome dentures, the base of the dentures is made from special alloys of cobalt, chrome or chromium. This metallic base supports a set of acrylic teeth and gums. This is a more common option for partial dentures.

Both partial and full dentures can be made from acrylic. Instead of metal alloys to create the base, high-quality acrylics can be used. Acrylic is easy to match in colour to your remaining teeth for a partial denture.
In cases where dentures are needed, and a patient still has substantial jawbone remaining, implant dentures are usually the first choice. Implants bond to the upper or lower jaw where a custom-fitted denture will snap into place. Generally, implant dentures are most appropriate for the lower jaw rather than the upper jaw.
The benefit of an implant denture is the added stability. Whereas other dentures can lose their fit and get loose over time, implant dentures stay put better because of their added support.
Immediate dentures are simple dentures that you can leave our office with on the same day. They’re made to fill in for extracted teeth while you wait for permanent dentures to be made. While they last for the long-term, immediate dentures are not as durable as permanent dentures.
Occasionally, dentures require relining to retain their snug fit. We do denture relining and repairs for patients around Gympie. Our team offers same-day repairs for simple fixes and relining.
Ill-fitted or damaged dentures can be uncomfortable and are at higher risk of breaking. It’s better to bring dentures in for relining and repairs before the problem has time to develop into something more serious.

There are many reasons why you may want to consider dentures, but they’re not appropriate for everyone. Here are some of the advantages of dentures and the disadvantages some people experience.

All dentures eventually require replacement. With our current denture technologies, we recommend a new set every five to ten years for most patients. Regular maintenance is important to extend the life of your dentures.
While it can take time to adjust to wearing dentures, the fittings and first few days of wear should not be overly uncomfortable. Dentures are fully custom-fitted to your gums and jaws, so they should ideally fit you well enough to stay comfortable.
If you have experienced any tooth loss that’s impacting your daily life, habits or personal confidence, dentures could be an ideal solution for you. Book a consultation to see if dentures may be appropriate in your case or not.
Whenever your dentures start to feel uncomfortable or loose, you should look into getting them relined.
Dentures can often be fixed, depending on the severity of the break. If you break them in half, they may not be repairable. But less severe breakages are fixable.
